Tuesday Morning III, 2024Oil paint on plywood
20 x 15 cm
This oil painting is the third in a series based on a video clip accidentally captured by a passerby in Manhattan on September 11, 2001. It portrays the moment just before a jetliner crashes into the World Trade Center. The shaky footage, with its 25 frames per second limitation, only offers a brief and unclear glimpse of the event. Though images of this specific moment are missing, countless depictions of the aftermath dominate our memory. In this piece, the artist imagines and recreates the instant before impact. Unlike the first two works in the series, this painting is simplified, focusing only on the essential elements of the event. It was a clear Tuesday morning. A jetliner streaked across Manhattan, and in the next moment, the world was forever changed.
